TAMPA, Fla. — When school breaks for the summer, as many as one in four kids lose reliable daily meals.

Owner Nicholas Glover says in the Bay Area alone, around 180,000 kids become food insecure over the summer months, losing their reliable daily meals at local schools.

“When we first started this location in February we knew we wanted to be a part of the community,” said Glover.  “We thought we’d sponsor some little league games, some Girl Scout troops.  But turns out there was a bigger need for us and we are excited to fill this void.”

Island Fin says every child 12 and under can eat free daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the purchase of a regular adult meal.

The meals are healthy, containing no trans fat or artificial sugars and are of an appropriate portion size.

Island Fin is located on West Kennedy Boulevard, just west of Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa.

Outside of the summer months, Island Fin offers a kids-eat-free bowl on Fridays.
